Dec. 20th, 2003 03:33 amHome now!
The term ended pretty well. B in CS and psych. Probably B in math, and probably C in chem. Good grades. I was thinking I would be getting C's-D's across the board.
So I'm leaving Sunday for a week on a cruise through warm places with family. I will probably have limited internet access.
I'm building myself a new computer to replace my 4.5 year old dell. Dad's paying for the computer part, plus a portion of the monitor part. I've got the computer components all figured out. But what to do for monitor(s)....... geez. So many options. Such different prices. Such different quality. I started off wanting 3 17" lcds. Then I saw dell's new 20" lcd at 1600x1200. It was _incredibly_ reasonably priced at $750, and intro price. This went up to $1000 today, so I'm likely not going to get one (or two, as I hoped) of those. Now, I'm using my 17" crt at home, and realizing that this is a fine monitor, and if I had three of these at school (which would cost $100 TOTAL, since I have two) I'd be happy. But dad says at MOST he will transport 1 crt back and forth between home and cornell. Plus crts are old technology, and I'm not used to new lcds. I'm used to my 3 year old laptop lcd. So my crt now is a big step up, but new lcds are a bigger step up. So crts are pretty much out. (ok, this turned into a stream of conscience post). Tonight, I've been oogling at apple's 23" cinema display... I want one. That would solve all my problems. Apple makes Good Hardware. Period. Their hardware outlasts everything else, technologically speaking. For example, one of their older 20" lcds was recently compared to several brand new 20" lcds, and their older one was better in many ways. Apple makes good stuff. Yes, it's expensive stuff, but it's GOOD. So. 23" cinema display would eliminate my need for two lcds side by side. It has very good color/response time/viewing angles/etc. It has a resolution of 1600x1920. It would also cost me $1888 (for display + converter so I can use it with pc). That's alot. I have the money, but that's alot. If my dad decides to pitch in money on my monitor setup, I won't have to pay all of that, but I'll still be spending alot. So. I have no idea what I should do.
Any suggestions? :-)
