Mar. 11th, 2005 12:14 amYou would think someone who works in a datacenter and who is basically responsible for hundreds of servers would know more or less what a bios is and how to get into one. The fact that this person works the graveyard shift isn't a good enough excuse.
I needed some values read out of the bios of my server. Since this is one of the only things I can't do remotely, and since downtown Chicago is not exactly easy for me to get to, I called up the datacenter to have them do it for me. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal. Gah. I told the guy I was rebooting my server and that he should look for something that says "Press __ to enter the bios" and press that. He couldn't figure out how to do that even after calling his manager and having me reboot the machine about three times. In hindsight, I should have found my motherboard manual, looked up the key, and told him to press it once a second until a bright blue screen comes up. Aw well...
