He is? It looks an awful lot like he's just having fun playing with that laser.

It's important for scientists to be playing with the coolest possible equipment in the lab when photos are taken.

If you feel like loading a huge pdf, http://usnuclearscience.org/documents/neutrino.pdf had a picture on page 46 of a girl from CMU. It's positively ethereal. How long do you think they had to spend posing her in that position to catch that thing?

So the real question is why didn't they pose the guy more crazy-like.
